Free and Cheap Movies on the Lower Peninsula for Summer, 2025

Love to take the kids to the movies, but hate the high ticket prices? Here's the place to check for the great value $1.50 movies and local free community movie events on the Lower Peninsula! Enjoy outdoor movies, movies at local libraries, and $1.50 movies at the theater in Palo Alto, Redwood City, Woodside, Portola Valley, Atherton, and Menlo Park.

Join the City of Palo Alto's Recreation Department for the 5th annual Summer Family Movie Night Series! The Community Services Department is excited to bring families together for an unforgettable evening under the stars.

Event Details:

Enjoy Downtown Redwood City on Courthouse Square by bringing the family out for FREE movies! Your summer movie experience will be enhanced with a mix of family movies and feature films on Thursday evenings, offering double features with Kids Movies at 6:00 pm alternating with BraveMaker Independent Films at 8pm, with another feature film at 8:30 pm! Join us for a special Juneteenth Celebration on June 13th featuring Black Independent Filmmakers with BraveMaker Films.

Movies are shown in crisp high-definition and full surround sound. Redwood City is THE ONLY city in California offering outdoor surround sound movies, so come enjoy the scene and experience our special LED Video screen. Come early for the best seats (a limited number of chairs and tables are available). Bring your blankets and pick up some take-out food from the nearby wonderful restaurants!

Kid movies start at 6:00 pm/Bravemaker Independent Films start at 8:00 pm/Evening Feature Film at 8:30 pm.

Join us for an exciting Summer Outdoor Movie Night Series, Friday evenings July 11 through August 15! All movies begin at 8:30 p.m. or dark. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the show.

Get ready for a night of open-air entertainment under the stars! Starting at 7:30 p.m., the first 50 youth to visit the Information Booth will receive a movie-themed giveaway pack. Glow sticks will be available for everyone!

Enjoy 10 weeks of $1.75 movies at the theater. Movies begin at 10:00 am on Wednesdays at Cinemark Century Redwood Downtown 20 in Redwood City and at 10:00 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Cinemark Century Mountain View.. Purchase tickets online or at the theater.

Each week features a different PG-13 or lower-rated movie, with snacks provided. Teens can suggest future films via a suggestion box in the Teen Zone.

These events are part of the library's teen programs and are open to students in grades 6–12.

Summer nights are meant for outdoor movies. Hang with us under the stars on the Youth Center Patio for movies! Movies will be shown on an inflatable 20ft movie screen at 7:30 pm. Popcorn and drinks provided. Must be a Youth Center member to attend. Cost is $15 per year.

Dive into the Sounds of Summer Movie Series at Holbrook-Palmber Park in Atherton. 

Parking may be limited, so why not embrace the summer spirit and walk or bike to the venue? Let's make this summer one to remember! Movies start at sunset. Movie titles and dates to come.
