There's something for every age!

Looking to inspire creativity this spring? From robotics and 3D printing to hands-on art and engineering, here’s your updated guide to free makerspace and STEAM events for families in our area this May.


MakeX Community Makerspace – Palo Alto

Ages: All ages (ideal for 8+)

MakeX is a teen-founded, teen-run makerspace offering access to laser cutters, 3D printers, and more. Mentors are available to help kids and teens explore their creativity in a safe and supportive environment. Kids under 12 will need an adult with them. 



STEAM Lab: Invisible Ink – Palo Alto

Ages: 6–11

This hands-on session invites kids to explore science by making their own invisible ink using common kitchen ingredients. Supplies are limited, so arrive on time.

Atherton Library Makerspace – Open Hours

Ages: All ages (children under 10 with adult supervision)

This modern makerspace includes 3D printers, a Glowforge laser cutter, and media equipment. Drop-in hours welcome anyone curious to tinker or create. Saturdays have a special emphasis on family exploration. 


Cubberley Artists Open Studios – Palo Alto

Ages: All ages (great for families)

While it's not directly a maker moment, tour the Cubberly Artists Open Studios to get inspired and explore over 20 artist studios during this open house event! Talk to artists, see, and collect art!

San Carlos Library Makerspace – Coming Soon

Ages: All ages

Worth a mention: the San Carlos Library is developing a new 1,000-square-foot makerspace featuring 3D printers, laser cutters, and more. While the space is under construction, community workshops and planning sessions are ongoing.
